The second month of this fantasy season has concluded meaning the season is just about half over. The league has been buzzing with close matchups, trades starting to occur, and a tight race for the playoffs. Here are some of the biggest headlines over the last month, and some things to consider for the next month...
Skattebros Ties Record for Longest Losing Streak in League History
The Skattebros, or Skattebroken, have officially tied the record for the longest losing streak with 8 straight losses this season. This ties the Rome Wasnt Built in a Day franchise which achieved this feat in 2024 losing 6 regular season games, then two consolation games. Skattebros have just been decimated by injuries and poor luck with players this season. Two of the teams' top point scorers in 2024, Jayden Daniels and Terry Mclaurin, have both missed several games, and when they did get on the field, they have been subpar for their expectations. Cam Skattebo was the one bright spot for this team during their poor stretch, and he just suffered numerous lower leg injuries that will unfortunately keep him out for the rest of the year and even start slow next year. Derrick Henry was a big offseason acquisition for this team, but during the 6 weeks Henry was on this roster, he averaged just 13.63 points per game, a massive 10 point fall off from last year. Henry was just traded a couple weeks ago for a 1st, as this team is starting to sell in hopes to get younger and look towards competing in the future. Tetairoa McMillan and Tyler Warren remain very bright spots for this team as they change their focus to the draft in late April.
Current Landscape Looks like a Sellers Market
As the trade deadline slowly approaches, teams looking to buy might notice that the amount of teams looking to sell is quite small. The Skattebros, and Mahomies over Mahoes are currently the only teams looking to sell their aging vets for draft picks. This means there are less players to buy driving up the price as injuries start to pile up. Prices have already started to inflate with Stefon Diggs just being traded for a 2nd round pick. Maybe not the worst value, but with his age and inconsistent production, some people around the league might believe it to be an overpay. This just goes to show that teams looking to buy at the deadline will have to overpay for players to fill their needs even if it is just for the rest of the season. If Mahomies over Mahoes decides to trade more pieces (Jaylen Warren, Tee Higgins, Travis Kelce, George Pickens, D'Andre Swift), don't be surprised if the price is quite large, this is a sellers market afterall.
Injuries and Byes Plague the League
Injuries and bye weeks are just a part of football that fans and fantasy players have to come to terms with during the season. Unless a player is literally invincible, they will have to deal with some sort of injury during the year, or even miss some time because of it. This year has been brutal with stars getting injured. Malik Nabers, Puka Nacua, Bucky Irving, Tyreek Hill, Omarion Hampton, James Conner, Joe Burrow, Jayden Daniels, and Terry Mclaurin are just a few of the players that have suffered injuries keeping them out for a few years, or even the whole season. Teams in this league are completely shorthanded, especially with week 8 being dubbed "Bye-Mageddon" with 6 teams having the week off. This forced teams to start some funky lineups this past week, showing just how important depth is in this league. Things got so bad for PoohShiesty9 that he was forced to start Luther Burden, Jerry Jeudy, and Rhamondre Stevenson in week 8. Depth is more important than ever with how easily injuries and a bye week can plague a roster.
Race for the Playoffs is Extremely Tight so far
Through just 8 weeks, the race for the playoffs is heating up. With 9 out of 10 teams having at least 3 wins, anyone could make the playoffs at this point. With every passing week, there are multiple shuffles in the standings changing the playoff picture every time. Currently, the top 6 teams are all .500 or better (4-4 or better) with two teams sitting just outside the playoffs with a 4-4 record as well, and one with 3 wins just on the outside. These teams outside of the playoffs should not be messed with either, with all three of them having at least 1 win against a team currently in the playoffs picture. A couple matches to look out for are Njigbas in Paris vs CMC Revenge Years in week 9, two playoff teams fighting to stay in the picture with a win. PoohShiesty9 vs Welcome to the Naberhood in week 9 is another great matchup to keep an eye on as the Naberhood looks to grab a significant win over a playoff team in hopes it puts them back into the playoffs with just 5 weeks to go.
The Pollard Express lost their win streak immediately after the last article
Some might call it a jinx (probably), but the Express started the year 4-0 feeling great, but promptly stumbled in the second month losing two in a row. The team struggled against CMC Revenge Year and the Coke Withdrawals giving them their first two losses of the year, but after Flacco got traded to the Bengals, things seemed to work out for them. Chase had 60 points in the last two weeks leading the Express to two more wins, and currently at the top of the standings. This team still has their struggles as AJ Brown and Garrett Wilson are both out with injuries forcing this team to lean on lesser talents. Wandale Robinson, Quentin Johnston, and DJ Moore need to step up for this team to stay at the top.
Some Surprise Emergences This Year
As a last headline, I just wanted to bring up some names that have been playing well this year that might be overlooked or just not talked about as much.
Michael Pittman is not the sexiest name especially after a very poor 2024 season, but has had a crazy bounce back. Constantly putting up 15+ points and landing himself in the top 10 of wide receivers after 8 weeks is not something people expected out of him, a lot because of Daniel Jones being his QB.
Harold Fannin was not even drafted in our rookie draft back in May and was actually selected by the Naberhood as a prize for winning the consolation bracket. Fannin has surpassed many expectations, currently sitting in the top 5 for tight ends this year, and being quite consistent in his performances. With only 2 touchdowns on the year, Fannin has still managed to have 10+ points in 5 out of 8 games this year. Even with shaky QB play, Fannin has still managed to be a comfortable start
Keenan Allen turns back the clock for another season in his return to the Chargers. Maybe he just needed to play with Herbert once again but he has been putting up some monster games this year. Week 7 in particular this year, Allen had 11 catches for 119 yards and a touchdown and 6 first downs gained. Just an unreal performance for a 33 year old wide receiver that looked quite slow in Chicago last year.
I feel like no one has been talking about Chris Olave this year because of how bad the New Orleans Saints have been. There were questions about Olave's health and QB play coming into the season, but Olave just said "fuck that" and has balled out this year. Top 10 wide receiver in points, and has put up 10+ points in 7 games (none being lower than 13.4 in those 7), and averaging 10 targets per game. Olave has been a monster this year but things may be uncertain with Tyler Shough starting now for the Saints.
