Over time the off-season has slowly become my favourite time of the year for footbal. Free agency, and the draft being the two main ways teams build their roster, and seeing the moves each team makes has always interesting to me. In dynasty football the offseason is when the blockbuster trades most often happen, and when the rookie draft takes place making it the most important time for all teams. This is when teams prepare for the season and make moves hoping to increase their chances of winning the championship. I will be rating each team's offseason moves (waiver pickups, trades, draft selections) and giving them a letter grade based on how well I think they did on improving their roster (teams that are rebuilding will be graded on a slightly different scale but that will be mentioned in their respective section).
Rome Wasn't Built in a Day: B+
Notable additions: Ceedee Lamb, Rhamondre Stevenson, Jordan Mason, Deebo Samuel, Jaylen Waddle, Emeka Egbuka, Tre Harris
Notable departures: David Montgomery, Tyrone Tracy, Chris Olave, Jalen McMillan, Multiple 1st round picks
This offseason was a big step forward for this rebuild acquiring Ceedee Lamb in a blockbuster trade right before the draft. Ceedee Lamb will be the guy on this roster for years to come at only 26 years of age but this roster still lacks lots of talent, and there are a lot of question marks about certain players. Chris Godwin coming off an injury, what will Rome Odunze be in the Bears offence, will any of the rookies (Emeka Egbuka, Tre Harris, Kyle Williams, and Bayshul Tuten) be of any use immediately, and will Jaylen Waddle bounce back. Giving away Montgomery and Tyrone Tracy is a risky gamble hoping that Jaylen Waddle bounces back to the top 10 wide receiver he has been before. Deebo Samuel was in my bounce back player article, I do believe he will bounce back for the year but will not be a long term solution to this roster. Rhamondre will certainly not be at his peak with the Patriots adding Treveyon Henderson to their backfield, and Jordan Mason will have to wait for Aaron Jones to leave before he takes over the backfield in Minnesota. The last bright spot would be Emeka Egbuka. He should get plenty of opportunities early due to injuries, which should help this team a lot right now and for the future. A lot has to go right for this team to see a meaningful step forward, but this isn't the worst this roster has looked and should play spoiler later in the year. This team gets a 'B+' because of the Ceedee Lamb acquisition, but losing Monty and Tracy on a Waddle gamble probably wasn't the best decision cause it forced the ownership to go out and get Rhamondre and Mason who are both inferior players. Lastly, having to rely on older veterans in Deebo Samuel and Chris Godwin also lowers the grade for this team.
Mahomies over Mahoes: A
Notable acquisitions: Ashton Jeanty, Mason Taylor, Jack Bech, Darnell Mooney, Keon Coleman
Notable departures: Rico Dowdle, Cam Skattebo, Jakobi Meyers
To me this offseason easily gets an 'A' because of the addition of Ashton Jeanty. This team was desperate for some juice in the running back room, and Jeanty provides just that. This team was truly missing that number 1 running back as D'Andre Swift is a sold RB2 and the handcuffs could provide value later in the season. Aside from Jeanty, this roster didn't really add or lose crazy amounts of talent but Darnell Mooney could be an underrated addition. George Pickens will be a good flex player for this team now that he's on the Cowboys, and will create a nice flex duo with Darnell Mooney who should benefit from Penix's gunslinger playstyle. These two will help this team survive the loss of depth when they traded away Jakobi Meyers. While the ownership believes that Keon Coleman can be a productive NFL player and fantasy player, I have some skepticism about that. I will not get into my gripes with Coleman, but to me giving up Meyers + draft picks for Coleman was the only negative of the offseason for this roster. But all in all, adding Jeanty and Mooney are good enough to give this team an 'A' and this team should be in the playoff race for sure.
CMC Revenge Year: B-
Notable acquisitions: RJ Harvey
Notable departures: None
There is simply not enough transactions for this team to get a high grade this offseason. There was some roster cutting with players losing their 'out' designations, but those players were never started or even notable. RJ Harvey was drafted in the late first round of the 2024 rookie draft and is the only notable transaction this team has made during the offseason. RJ Harvey looks to have a decent chunk of the Broncos rushing attempts splitting with JK Dobbins. Harvey also provides a little bit of youth into a running back unit that is on the older side with Christian McCaffrey and Alvin Kamara being 30 and Jonathan Taylor will be 27 this season. A 'B-' might sound generous but this team had one need, a younger running back with the possibility of starting, and the team went out and got just that. I would have liked to see this team move some of their wide receiver depth for another running back with Najee Harris likely taking a backseat to Omarion Hampton, but RJ Harvey should be enough depth. Although there were very, very few total moves they still earned a 'B-' in my book.
Tony Dorset: C+
Notable acquisitions: Chris Olave, Omarion Hampton, Treveyon Henderson
Notable departures: Ceedee Lamb, Romeo Doubs, Justin Tucker
C+ might be a harsh grade but hear me out. This team just won the championship with a completely stacked roster and their first offseason move before the draft, was to trade away Ceedee Lamb for Chris Olave and multiple 1st round picks (who turned into Hampton and Henderson). Now I will not lie, Hampton, Henderson, and Jamhyr Gibbs could be an insane trio for the future if both of them are as expected. But Chris Olave, while still tremendously talented, has health concerns and still have quarterback concerns (those concerns being they suck and give him health concerns). It will be very hard for Olave to fill the hole that Lamb left, but having Puka and a fantastic RB group can help aid that. This is still a championship caliber team, and even if they only played their running backs they could still compete that's how elite they are. The two other departures are not as impactful, Doubs is in a crowded wide receiver room in Green Bay, and Justin Tucker is a weirdo that you can replace without any issue. Losing Ceedee Lamb for multiple uncertain pieces if why this team received a low grade this offseason.
Njigbas In Paris: D+
Notable acquisitions: DJ Giddens, Jalen Royals, Tua Tagovailoa
Notable departures: None
Coming off a second round exit to the eventual runner up, this team could have come out and made multiple moves in an attempt to improve the roster and give themselves a better chance at winning it all the following year. But they didn't, instead they used their two 3rd rounds picks to grab DJ Giddens who could be the handcuff to Jonathan Taylor, and Jalen Royals, a talented wide receiver that hopes to find his way into some meaningful snaps for the Kansas City Chiefs. Lastly, this team picked up Tua Tagovailoa to provide a more stable backup in the event that J.J. McCarthy is not as good as the hype says he is. This team might be the most talented team in the league, and if Rashee Rice had stayed healthy, this team could have very well won the championship. I can respect an owner that doesn't panic in the offseason and knows that with Rashee Rice returning after week 6, this team will have as good of a shot as any other team to win next season. Although, passing on Kyle Williams in the rookie draft is something I had to dock points for, more likely to be useable than the two draft picks this team used.
Skattebeast: A-
Notable acquisitions: Derrick Henry, Khalil Shakir, Jameson Williams, David Montgomery, Tyrone Tracy, Tetairoa McMillan, Tyler Warren
Notable departures: Jaylen Waddle, Jaylen Wright, Darnell Mooney, Kenneth Walker, A.J. Brown, Jared Goff
(This article does not include the recent Tracy-Diggs trade that was accepted today)
A very eventful offseason for a team that narrowly missed the playoffs (cough unethical tanker cough). Understanding that the team has to capitalize off of the great play of Jayden Daniels and the resurgence of Terry Mclaurin, they went out and got several helpful pieces to improve the roster. Giving up A.J. Brown is tough to do with how good he is, but receiving Derrick Henry back in the trade could be worth it if he continues to defy father time. Also getting Khalil Shakir in that deal helps with the lack of depth at that position as Shakir is a solid 10-13 points per game type of player. Another major trade this team made was moving back in the draft and swapping Kenneth Walker for Jameson Williams, adding much needed depth at that position, with only 3 startable players at that position before the rookie draft. This team also added Tetairoa McMillan and Tyler Warren in the first round of the draft securing two players for positions of need, but they must have good first seasons to really help this team. The last big trade this team made was to acquire David Montgomery and Tyrone Tracy for Jaylen Waddle. This was a much needed boost to the running back room and added better depth to the position. This was a great trade for this team and puts them into playoff contention as they hope to make some noise during the season.
PoohShiesty9: C+
Notable acquisitions: Travis Hunter, Luther Burden, Pat Bryant
Notable departures: Gabe Davis, Gus Edwards
After winning the championship in the first season, this team suffered an unfortunate 1st round exit in the playoffs this past season. The biggest weaknesses this team suffered from was the lack of talent and startable players at the running back position, and Tyreek Hill having a big down year. This team did not address the running back issue but they added great wide receiver talent in the draft with Travis Hunter and Luther Burden. These two players should add much needed depth to the team and I expect Hunter to be a star level player with Trevor Lawrence at QB. This team is loaded at wide receiver but they did nothing to address their running back issue, just hoping Travis Etienne goes back to his star form is not the best gamble to take. I had to give this offseason a 'C+' because of the lack of moves made, the RB group wasn't improved at all, but the draft selections made were very good.
The Pollard Express: B+
Notable acquisitions: A.J. Brown, Jared Goff, Kaleb Johnson, Christian Kirk
Notable departures: Derrick Henry, Khalil Shakir
Another title contender that decided to shake things up by trading away a star fantasy player in Derrick Henry but acquired another star player in A.J. Brown. I think this was a good trade for this team, Brown is a supremely talented wide receiver, that has been near the top of the league in fantasy points per game since joining the Eagles. This team has enough depth at the running back position to make this sort of deal and I think it will work out for them. Adding Jared Goff will provide a solid floor every week at the QB position. This team struggled all of last year with virtually no player being startable for them with Caleb's struggles so the addition of Goff is a solid one. Adding Kaleb Johnson in the draft really adds to the depth for this team as Kaleb is expected to handle a decent amount of carries within the Steelers system but a respectable share with Jaylen Warren. The Christian Kirk addition is puzzling to me. This is an aging players that hasn't been healthy the last couple years and a team change really doesn't bode well for his production. The Texans already have Nico Collins and they drafted two talented players in Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel. Kirk will have to be healthy and spectacular to be productive fantasy wise and I just don't see that happening. All in all, this team hasn't made a ton of moves but the moves they did make, I believe made this team better, but there is still a question if Dalton Kincaid can be the guy this team needs, and the whole quarterback group has to have at least 1 standout for this team to reach their ceiling.
Coker?! I Hardly Know Her: B
Notable acquisitions: Jakobi Meyers, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Higgins, Terrance Ferguson, Jaylin Noel, Elic Ayomanor
Notable departures: Cole Kmet, Deebo Samuel, Rhamondre Stevenson, Jordan Mason, Keon Coleman, Christian Kirk
(This article does not include the recent Tracy-Diggs trade that was accepted today)
Coming off a semi-final appearance this team looked to try and rejuvenate their roster a little bit, while also recouping some of the draft capital lost during last season. This team was successful in gaining some draft capital, sending Deebo, Keon Coleman, Rhamondre, Jordan Mason, and Christian Kirk away gaining some more 2nd and 3rd round picks that should prove to be decent trade assets later on. Could say that this team still has room left to grow before becoming title contenders, but per insider reports, this ownership believes that it takes a good team to make the playoffs, but once there, the luckiest team wins it all. This team is just looking for the opportunity to be lucky. I think this team is definitely good enough to get there, especially after adding Jakobi Meyers and both Texan receivers Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel. Jakobi Meyers has been an underrated fantasy player for a couple years now. A solid 12-16 fantasy points per game the last couple years, and now plays with Geno Smith, the best quarterback he's ever had. Giving away Keon Coleman and receiving Meyers AND draft capital was a fantastic trade. Although it was good to grab more draft picks for Rhamondre and Jordan Mason the running back depth is suffering a little bit because of that trade, forces the team to lean on Bucky and Mixon being very good and healthy all year. All in all, this team might not have the absolute superstars that jump off the page, but players like Josh Allen, Bucky Irving, and Joe Mixon will carry this team to the playoffs where they will have a chance, with a little luck.
Welcome to the Naberhood: A
Notable acquisitions: Kenneth Walker, Jalen McMillan, Quinshon Judkins, Matthew Golden, Dylan Sampson
Notable departures: Jameson Williams
A blooming team that was on the cusp of the playoffs made significant moves to make that first true push to the playoffs. Moving a few spots back in the draft to swap Jameson Williams for Kenneth Walker was a very good trade for this team for multiple reasons. First off the difference in talent level between Tyler Warren and Matthew Golden (players picked at spots where picks were swapped), does not cover the gap between Kenneth Walker and Jameson Williams. Walker is a much more talented and a better player than Williams is and will always beat him out in fantasy points per game in fully healthy games. But the one downside is that Walker has missed significant time in the past and played in only 11 games last year. This roster luckily has the handcuff back in Zach Charbonnet to take over if Walker does get hurt and Charbonnet produces just as well as Walker does. The draft was very fruitful for this team, taking Quinshon Judkins, Matthew Golden, and scooping the Judkins handcuff in Dylan Sampson as well. Judkins will hopefully provide much needed talent and depth at the running back position which has been very thin since last season being held up by Bijan Robinson. Matthew Golden adds to the promising youth at wide receiver and the Jalen McMillan trade was looking good until the Buccaneers surprised the world and drafted Emeka Egbuka in the 1st round. Overall a good offseason for this team, addressing some big needs this offseason and added some very promising talent, but there are still questions about whether Sam LaPorta will return to his rookie form or not, and I predict this team might be in the market for another tight end if LaPorta continues to be low on the passing target list for the Lions.
